My plan for landings is different to the final intention regards showing my work. The project as evolved into 3 parts all following on from the work and ideas produced in previous modules, much based on the learning I have acquired during the MA so far.
The first part being the most likely I will submit for the end of module WIP and Oral.
In exploring by bicycle the football stadiums of London during the quietness of Covid i’ve been able to take a step back, take some time and really look around me for the first time in a while, in doing so several other simple ideas have evolved including looking at post war estate pubs and how they reflect and bond local communities, following on from the tribalism of football and expanding it.I’ve been looking at the formation of the Welfare State ,demise of the working class, women’s rights and in the words of Mrs Thatcher the notion of there being no such thing as society.
So whilst the first part is pretty much coming to a close ,i’ve actually decided to use part 2 as a stepping stone to part 3 and what I think may well form the basis of my FMP next module.
For this I am researching and working with two local Working Mens clubs that have bucked the trend and and managed to stay relevant and progressive,I aim to explore some of the same subjects via images of the clubs, activities, portraits as well as oral histories provided by users.I’m planning to make it collaborative and hope to mix archive material alongside this my aim is to relate this all to my family history, our relationships with Working mens clubs and the relationships between my dad and I and his dad who was a Steward of one .
I want to show this work within the spaces photographed both as work that suits the environment such as prints framed accordingly ,menu cards ,beermats and card games, maybe even some form of bingo for everyone to participation .I’m working on that one.
I like the idea of projections and would like to utilise the use of Nebula projectors or similar to project images alongside the oral images.
Much like the work of Lorenzo Vitturi who’s work Dalston Anatomy exploring Ridley Rd Market was first shown in situ on Ridley Rd on a market stall to an audience which would of consisted of his subject matter.I like this idea at least for the initial approach and have outlined how I have done this myself in the past in previous emails.I like the way it throughs people together and takes some out of their comfort zones to really have to look outside of the gallery setting.
Getting back to Landings, I do not plan a physical show but do intend a football programme style fanzine/mag to show the work which will be made available alongside an online showing on my website.
Here are a few of the images I am considering.
